Author: Philip Tibbetts.
Rationale: The y-shaped pall symbolises the Hudson and Mohawk rivers around which the state is based. In the hoist portion of the flag is a white and coral rose. The white rose petals are a reminder of the heraldic device of the original York in Britain. The coral petals here though are in the colour of the state rose to represent the new growth and thus name 'New York'.
