Rationale: The design removes the anachronistic Union flag and simply leaves the distinctive hooped pattern of the modern flag but fused with the colours of the Kanaka Maoli flag to symbolise the ancient and indigenous history of these pacific islands. The absence of royal or colonial emblems reaffirms the flags use for all.
