Flag proposal for Louisiana by FlagFreak, from Originally uploaded on 16 May 2007.

Original description:

"Louisiana's current flag is crazy. The design is bad enough, but just recently there was a law that said that three drops of blood had to be added to the flag on the pelican's breast for the flag to be official. This design I came up with took me about four months to come up with.

The tricolour design represents three things: First, it represents the motto of Louisiana, "Union, Justice, and Confidence". The blue represents Union, the white represents Justice, and the red represents Confidence. Second, the tricolour represents France, which originally had the state of Louisiana before the United States bought it. And third, the red, white, and blue represents the United States. The five pointed star represents the United States, and the fleur-de-lis represents France. The green and yellow resepent Louisiana's marshes and swamps."
