Rationale: The sky blue field reflects the nickname of the state ‘big sky country’ owing to its vast natural beauty. Upon this is a large gold chevron which represents the mountains the inspired the state’s name as well as the mineral wealth the leads to its nickname ‘treasure state’. Placed upon this are three fuchsia coloured bitterroots, the distinctive floral emblem of the state.
