Author: Philip Tibbetts.

Rationale: The blue and white quarters recall the checks on the arms of the Clan Stewart to whom Charles I of England belonged and thus recall the origins of the name Carolina. In the white check of the canton is charged two crossed red cornucopias. The cornucopias themselves recall the original emblem of Carolina, their position towards the top of the flag denotes the 'North' part of the modern states name and the red mirrors the blue as an official state colour.
