Rationale: The straight horizontal hoops depict the meaning of the state's name as 'flattened' water, whilst the black and white colour recall an early nickname of ‘Blackwater State’, given the dark fertile soil causes the rivers to run dark. Charged upon this is a cabossed antelope head, also recalling an early nickname of ‘The Antelope State’ give the abundance of the animal.
