Rationale: Taken the burgee style flag and adapted it into a full swallow-tailed-flag to keep the iconic heritage of the design as well as give it a fuller 'presence' that will enable it to not looked dwarfed by orthodox rectangular flags. The burgundy 'O', placed on a white triangle issuing from the hoist, represents the 'buckeye' of the state's nickname and official tree, the shade of colour inspired by that of Ohio State University and the darker shade of red-brown of real buckeyes. The field of the design features two blue hoops at the top and bottom representing Lake Erie and the Ohio River that mark the state's northern and southern borders respectively. The centre of the field is buckeye red.
