Original description: "This redesign has inspiration from a few sources. The color choices of Buff (orange) and blue come from the State's national colors. Both state flags have at one point displayed these colors. The design itself gets inspiration from Amsterdam. The reason being New York was originally known as New Amsterdam and it was first settled by the dutch. There are 11 stars on the white banner representing New York since its the 11th state in the Union. I chose white for the center bar because white is the color of New beginnings. It sort of touches upon 9/11 and how we had to start again from scratch."
