The flag of Singapore, consists of a horizontal red stripe, a horizontal white stripe, with a white crescent moon and five white stars on the upper part of the flag.
Symbolism[]
The red stripe is for the universal brotherhood and equality of man, the white stripe for pervading and everlasting purity and virtue, the waxing crescent moon represents a young nation on the ascendant, and the five stars represent the nation's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality.

Flag of Straits Settlements (1874-1942) Consisted of a British ensign with three crowns on an inverted pall, representing the three settlements of Singapore, Malacca, and Penang.
When Singapore became an independent Crown Colony it adopted its own flag, which replaced the three crowns with one. (1946-1952)
